In October 2000, two DJs from Timisoara, DJ Gino Manzotti and DJ Maxx decided to found a musical project named, accordingly, DJ Project. Since autumn 2003 they also included in their project Elena (Elena Bătlăgan), and released "Lumea ta", their third album as a group and the first in the new formula.
In 2004 DJ Project was the Romanian group to feature in the Romanian Top 100 for the longest period of time - 40 weeks - with their single "Lumea ta"(Your world) . The next release, "Printre vise", was another musical success of the year. In 2005 the single "Lumea ta" began to be aired in whole Europe, DJ Project being promoted using the name of the lead singer "Elena".
In 2005, DJ Project released a new album „Soapte”.The first single from it, "Privirea ta" (Your sight) which participated in FSC in August 2005, was a super-hit that dominated all Romanian charts and radio playlists. It became the hit of the year, and was followed by their second release from this album, ”Soapte”.
In 2006 the group also recorded, at the request of Universal Music record company, a videoclip for the single "Before I Sleep" - the english version of their hit single "Privirea ta". In July DJ Project released their fifth album, "Povestea mea", including this English version of "Privirea ta". The first single released from the new album, named “Inca o noapte” (One more night), quickly reached no.1 in the Romanian charts.
In November 2006 the group is conferred in Copenhagen the Best Romanian Act award at the MTV Europe Music Awards, a trophy that acknowledges the quickest rise in the Romanian music. In 2006 and 2007 the group also received consecutively the award for the best dance group at the MTV Romania Awards.
Also in November 2006 a new single is released,”Esti tot ce am”. At the end of June 2007 Elena returned with a new look while DJ Project released their sixth album, named ”Două anotimpuri”
